Summer is finally upon us and that means the kids are home and need something to keep them occupied. It’s time to break out the craft supplies and keep them entertained with these simple and fun summer craft projects that can be completed in an afternoon.
Pineapple Finger Painting. Pineapples are very trendy right now. Why not combine your kid’s artwork with an It design to make the coolest statement piece on the block. Grab some canvas or poster board and pencil an outline of a pineapple. Have the kids fill in the body with thumb prints to mimic the pines, then use fingers to create swooping lines for the crown. Erase the pencil lines when dry.
Watermelon Flower Pots. Grab some terracotta flower pots and acrylic paint for this one. Paint the rims green and the bottoms pink. Let dry. Randomly dot the base with tear-drop shaped black seeds when the pink paint has dried. As a bonus, use a lighter green paint along the rim to draw vertical lines mimicking the pattern on the rind of a watermelon. Then plant something and watch it grow!

Popsicle Stick Frames. What’s summer without popsicles? Round up your popsicle sticks and cover them with paint, scrapbook paper, washi tape, or other papercraft items. Glue together your sticks using hot glue. Try to keep at least one side flat and free of excess glue. When the sticks have reached the desired frame size, glue on a small binder clip or paper clip at the top for easy photo changes. You can even use a small tack to hold photos.

Inspirational Word Rocks. Update the pet rock with paint and inspirational words! Find rocks that have a flat area large enough to write on. Paint all of the rocks in different base colors, then use a thin brush to add in your favorite inspirational words, patterns, or pictures. Cover with a clear coat to prevent chipping. These words are great intention reminders to carry with you!
These are great crafts to do inside when it gets too hot or even outside so you don’t have to worry about paint splatters! No matter where you do it, these summer crafts will keep kids entertained.
