As a new college student, it can be overwhelming to keep everything organized and in its proper place. A little effort will go a long way when it comes to preparing your dorm room and yourself for college studying. Not only will your space look nice, but it’ll help you focus on your studies.
Have a planner system. Whether you invest in a physical planner or use an app on your phone, noting important dates, deadlines, and events is important for success. Writing things down will help commit them to memory. Like we wrote last week, color coding would be great here! You’ll easily be able to differentiate between classes, clubs, and those deadlines. You can even color code your notebooks to your planner entries so everything is seamless.
Use a pinboard. We don’t mean Pinterest when we say pinboard, though Pinterest is great to keep topics organized. We mean an actual corkboard that you can pin things to. Set up a weekly calendar so it’s always in front of you, pin tickets to upcoming events, even note goals and mantras that you want to remember. Keep it near where you work most often; when something is always right there, it’ll always be on the top of your mind.
Cut down on excess. Dorms and college apartments are tiny and there isn’t much storage space. Reduce the amount of items you have so you don’t have to store as much. This will naturally open up the amount of storage you do have so everything has a place. Working in a well organized space clears your mind and allows you to focus.
Setting yourself up for college success is as easy as making sure your space is organized. When you’re able to keep your physical space free of clutter, your mind will be able to stay on track.
