Bold colors can be scary, but 2016 trends are leaning towards less-saturated hues than in past years. Pantone announced 2016 Color of the Year is two colors – Rose Quartz and Serenity. Says Pantone, “Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”

We could all use a little order and peace in our homes. Here are a few places where these colors would shine in your decor.

A Cramped Closet. Add an unexpected pop of color in a closet or small space. Not only will it brighten up the area, it’ll make it easier to see what’s in your storage spot. It may even make you want to do a little clutter clearing so you can see your Color of the Year in your closet.

A Large Piece of Furniture. Bring some contrast to a striking piece of furniture with a juxtaposition of light colors mixed with a strong sideboard or chest of drawers. This will highlight your piece in an interesting way and make it a lighter, brighter focal point in your space.

A Work of Art. Purchase a large canvas and swirl together Serenity and Rose Quartz to make a custom work of art that inexpensively refreshes your art collection. This is especially great if you want to introduce a Color of the Year in a non-permanent way. Bonus: next year, you can paint over it with the next hue du jour.

Decor and Accessories. There are some other ways to add the Color of the Year in a cost-effective way that you can change on a whim. Line baskets with rose quartz fabric or purchase a rug in shades of Serenity blue. Spray paint may be your friend in this instance; purchase inexpensive accessories and paint them!

No matter how you add Pantone’s Color of the Year into your decor, make it yours. Add these colors where you think you need a little warmth or some calming energy.
